Conference summary

Sedation of pediatric patients in dental office’s environment has specific features. This anesthetic technique modifies conscientiousness level, providing anxiolysis and amnesia. Thus, the children experience in dental office can be filled with more comfort and happiness.
Clinical safety must guide team performance. Drug selection must consider the procedure to perform as well as patient medical condition, being aware that conscientiousness level modification can mainly induce respiratory and cardiovascular changes.

The session objectives are:
–       To briefly revise the pediatric anatomical and physiological features that influence clinical approach and management;
–       To approach clinical risk as part of safety and quality healthcare delivery;
–       To understand sedation as an anesthetic technique, its level of consciousness modification and consequences in respiratory and cardiovascular systems;
–       To understand sedation’s related airway patency maintenance;
–       To revise hydroxyzine and midazolam actives substances: pharmacotherapeutic groups, indications, dosages, administration routes, contra-indications and side effects;
–       To approach clinical cases using an integrative method.
