Conference summary

Dental treatments usually take place on a scheduled basis and without risk to the patient. However, unexpected situations can occur, with a threat to the health and eventually life-threatening of the patient. Although these emergency situations can occur with any person, at any time or place, the dental office favors unexpected situations, because it is a stressful environment in which patients perform invasive procedures and in which drugs are used. The likelihood of these situations is increasing, due to factors such as an older population and polymedicated patients are performing dental treatments.

This lecture will address the main emergency situations that may occur in the dental office, training dental assistants for their prevention, rapid identification and assistance in resolution, increasing the safety of patients and health professionals in the dental treatments performed.
