Conference summary

Of the three types of malocclusions described by Edward Angle more than a hundred years ago, Class III is the least prevalent but the most difficult to treat using exclusively Orthodontics. Knowing this difficulty, Orthodontists unconsciously consider prognathic profiles less attractive when compared to the evaluation made by laymen. The difficulty in the treatment of Class III is related mainly to a strong genetic influence associated to jaw growth, difficult to treat orthodontically in adolescents and adults. However, in children, Class III can be treated with relative success by using extra-oral appliances, which will be the focus of this communication.
