Conference summary

The main objective of the endodontic treatment is to prevent or heal the apical periodontitis. This last one is directly related to bacterian contamination of the root canal system.

The success rate of the endodontic treatment is, nowadays, quite high (approximately 90% in primary treatments).

Among important factors that contribute to endodontic success we may find the use of the rubber dam, proper canal instrumentation and obturation protocol and adequate cavity restoration.

The importance (eventual obligation?) of intra-canal medication when dealing with lesions caused by periapical periodontitis will be discussed. Is it imperative his use to achieve endodontic success?
