Summary of the presentation

Restorative dentistry and dental medicine in a general way have been developing towards an assessment of our patients based on the prevention and re-occurrence of diseases, on early diagnosis, and when necessary, on conservative and minimally invasive treatments.

This assessment is oriented by a philosophy based on the scientific evidence of the last decades.

The aim of this presentation is to analyse the motives for minimally invasive dentistry in cariology, and to indicate the current criteria for an invasive and/or preventive treatment.

New recent complementary diagnosis methods and more healthy tissue-preserving techniques in restorative dentistry will be addressed. For instance, how to promote a better quality of life to our patients.
