Summary of the presentation
Worldwide ischemic heart disease and stroke are responsible for more deaths than all cancers together.
And, although all the developments in prevention, diagnose and treatment it is estimated that the percentage will reach 31,7% in 2030.
These pathologies are mainly due to atherosclerosis and since the late 80’s, periodontal disease, specifically periodontitis, has been assuming a prominent place as a possible factor implicated in the ethiopathogenesis of the atherosclerosis.
Several theories have emerged attempting to explain the mechanism of association between both diseases.
The aim of this presentation is to systematize the actual knowledge about a possible association between both pathologies.
