Summary of the presentation
This presentation describes and groups the main periodontal conditions that can occur as a manifestation of systemic diseases or medications.
In this context the author establishes 3 groups, based on the approach to be taken by the Médico Dentista:
- Those lesions where the focus should be on the early diagnosis of the systemic disease, as in the case of malignant hematologic diseases,
- the lesions where the therapeutic intervention is basically medical, as in the desquamative gingivitis lesions and finally,
- those conditions where the periodontal treatment can eliminate the periodontal lesion, as it is the case of the drug-induced gingival enlargements.
