Summary of the presentation
Of the associations studied between the state of oral health and systemic conditions, the most common relation found is with Periodontal Disease and Diabetes Mellitus.
Several studies suggest a reciprocal relation between diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease.
Individuals with diabetes present greater prevalence and severity of periodontal disease, comparatively to individuals without diabetes.
On the other hand, diabetic patients with deficient glycemic control, throughout the years, present significantly higher attachment and bone loss than diabetic with correct glycemic control.
The objective of this presentation is to reunite the most recent literature about the association of these two pathologies.
