Conference summary

The Iberian Forum aims to place oral health on the political agenda of both countries (Portugal and Spain) through strategic cooperation, as well as to promote a more vigorous debate in Portugal and Spain on common challenges and how to convert them into opportunities for development with an impact on the health of the Iberian population.

Portugal and Spain share crucial issues that require an articulated response. These include the regulation of dentistry and the impact of the free movement of oral health professionals and training. The importance of educational institutions for the harmonization of training in dentistry, as well as the exchange of information and the sharing of best practices to ensure the quality of teaching and scientific knowledge, are key.

It also intends to promote innovation and research through exchange and partnership between the two countries. Sharing the academic network to increase the capacity for high-impact research and science, favouring the creation of an Iberian ecosystem, with the involvement of the industry and entrepreneurs in the sector. It will also endeavor to prepare joint applications for international funding in the area of oral health, gaining scale and dimension from a partnership perspective.

The Iberian Forum is based on the commitment of the Portuguese Dental Association and the General Council of Dentists of Spain to act as a unified space for the development of oral health, transforming geographical proximity into a competitive and social advantage in all dimensions: political, regulatory, training, and scientific.
