Conference summary

The diagnosis of oral pathology requires knowledge of the wide range of clinical presentations, as well as of the surgical techniques used to obtain tissue or cell samples for a definitive diagnosis.

In this hands-on course, different surgical techniques will be addressed — incisional, excisional and fine-needle aspiration — focusing on the indications for each and their practical execution.

These techniques will be demonstrated and practiced on animal models (pig mandible and tongue), illustrating the specificities of each method.

In addition, proper completion of laboratory request forms for cytology and/or histopathology will be explained, along with the pathway of the sample.

The goal is for participants to acquire both theoretical and practical skills necessary to perform these procedures effectively.
