  • Degree (1986), PhD (1998), and Habilitation (2006) – Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Porto. Full Professor at the same institution since 2018.
  • Additional training in Hospital Management (Porto Business School, 2013) and in Quality Management and Health Auditing (CESPU, 2007).
  • Lecturer in postgraduate programs at various national and international institutions. Held executive management positions in healthcare: Executive Board Member of ULS de Braga (2024–2025).
  • Chairman of the Board of Directors at Centro Hospitalar do Médio Ave (2013–2016), Hospital da Misericórdia de Paredes (2009–2011), Clínica Particular de Barcelos (2005–2012), and Hospital de São Marcos – Braga (2002–2005).
  • Held multiple roles at the University of Porto and the Faculty of Dental Medicine, including: Member of the Senate, Ethics Committee, General Council, and various scientific and pedagogical committees.
  • Participated in the Founding Committee of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Minho and in the National Taskforce for Access to Medical and Dental Programs.
  • 7: President of the Portuguese Society of Stomatology and Dental Medicine – SPEMD (2000–2005) and of the Ethics and Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Dental Association (1997–2000). Representative in EEC dental committees.
  • Member of several national and international scientific societies. Author of over 50 indexed scientific publications and frequent speaker, organizer, and academic juror at national and international conferences.
  • Former editor-in-chief of a scientific journal and member of editorial boards.

Conference summary

The session “Oral health at a local level” invites reflection on the role of public policy and local governance in the promotion of oral health.

In a roundtable format, participants will discuss strategies to strengthen proximity and ensure equitable access to oral healthcare.

The debate will highlight the importance of coordination between local authorities, community services, and central government in implementing preventive and health literacy policies in oral health.

The session aims to foster an integrated and collaborative approach focused on reducing inequalities and achieving sustained improvements in the oral health of communities.
