Conference summary

Nowadays, the aesthetics of the face are of growing importance and concern in the lives of our patients. It is a factor that profoundly influences personal attractiveness and self-esteem, and has repercussions on social, emotional, and professional relationships.
An assessment of the patient’s concerns and expectations and knowledge of possible solutions are essential stages before starting the treatment plan. It is also important for the patient to be aware of all the therapeutic options. For orthodontic camouflage, attention must be paid to skeletal and occlusal discrepancies, periodontal condition, and facial aesthetics. Only in this way, and taking all these fundamental principles into account, will we achieve treatment success.

Camouflage can be carried out in Class II, Class III, open bite, and can also involve extractions. However, it is important to realize that treatment time may be increased in these cases.

Concepts of facial and dental aesthetics will be covered, including essential elements such as the lips, nose, chin, and cervical length, because it’s not just the smile that counts, but the face as a whole and how everything must work proportionally to achieve the desired result.

Orthodontic therapeutic options for treating various malocclusions without compromising facial aesthetics will also be presented. When well planned and decided jointly by the orthodontist and the patient, orthodontic camouflage can produce satisfactory results in terms of both teeth and facial aesthetics.
