Conference summary
The gummy smile has become an increasingly frequent concern for patients who seek orthodontic consultation, especially due to the growing importance attributed to facial aesthetics and smile in our society. Its multifactorial etiology, which may involve skeletal, dental and soft tissue changes, requires a multidisciplinary approach for effective treatment.
In order to respond to our patients, there are several gummy smile treatment options. In this context, orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery emerges as a comprehensive, efficient, and stable approach to correcting a gummy smile. Orthodontics plays a crucial role pre-and post-surgery, helping to correct the position of teeth and prepare dental arches for surgery. Orthognathic surgery aims to correct underlying skeletal discrepancies, providing a stable and harmonious base for the smile.
To illustrate this approach, clinical cases will be presented that demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of orthodontic-surgical treatment in resolving gummy smile. Through the combination of orthodontic treatment to correct the position of the teeth and orthognathic surgery to correct the skeletal relationship, it is possible to achieve satisfactory aesthetic and functional results, providing the patient with a more balanced, harmonious, and stable smile.
The clinical cases presented will not only highlight the importance of orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery in the treatment of gummy smile but will also highlight the positive results that can be achieved through this integrated and collaborative approach between specialties.
