Conference summary
The capacity for entrepreneurship is perhaps one of the main characteristics of dentists, and one of the oldest.
With no dental career in the National Health Service, many are forced to roll up their sleeves and create their own job opportunities.
They create jobs for other dentists and a wide range of other health professionals. As such, in addition to the practice of dentistry, they are also managers and decision-makers, obliged to not only keep up with technological developments in dentistry, but also with the constant advances and challenges that management entails.
This multi-faceted role also means that they have to be able to meet the demands of the community in which they work. Entrepreneurship is also revealed in the way dentists progress within their field of knowledge, as continuing training is imperative. Dentistry is an area of high specialization, but like other professions, it is not immune to the entrepreneurial streak.
