Conference summary

02:30 – 04:00 PM
The diet and its role in tooth decay and erosive tooth wear: villain or protection?

The importance of diet in oral and overall health is indisputable. Diet is a common factor for several non-communicable chronic diseases, but it can also be a protective factor.

In this presentation we will review scientific evidence, and the way it can demonstrate the importance of reducing sugar consumption and increasing a vegetables green leaft diet, among others. Emphasis will be given to the motivational interview strategy as a tool for risk management in patients whose conventional interventions were not effective.

05:30 – 07:00 PM
Concepts of minimally invasive interventions in dentistry: non-invasive and micro-invasive therapies

For a correct tooth decay approach it is very important to manage its etiology.

In this conference we will review the actual concept of the disease, its non-invasive management criteria (diet, biofilm, fluorides and saliva), as well as the micro-invasive options that include fissure and proximal surfaces sealants.

These strategies should guide the treatment and avoid invasive approaches, which would be considered a failure according to the most recent concepts of tooth decay management.
