Conference summary

Glucocorticoids are the most used drugs to control non-infectious oral inflammatory pathology, namely autoimmune pathology, such as pemphigus, lichen planus and lupus erythematosus.

We will make a brief summary of the mechanism of action of corticosteroids, the most commonly used schedule of administration in the daily clinic, their doses and side effects.

As immunological diseases are usually chronic, with outbreaks and present in patients with several comorbidities, there is a need to avoid prolonged use of cortisone in high doses.

We can thus associate immunosuppressive drugs that work as cortisone sparing agents.

We will design the most used drugs for this purpose, their contraindications and most frequent side effects, making a reference to the new treatments with biological agents.

This presentation will be complemented with illustrative clinical cases.
