Conference summary

Achieving excellent results at the end of orthodontic treatments is essential. It involves a series of procedures, which must be considered from before the beginning of treatment, as well as during the other phases of orthodontic treatment. But the most critical step corresponds to the finalization itself or the steps close to the removal of the appliance. For this phase, it is essential to have clear goals, a checklist to be used before appliance removal to check and correct details considered inadequate, such as proper assembly considering the various malocclusions, repositioning of brackets and adjustments to orthodontic archwires.

The aim of this conference is to report, reveal, discuss, and propose procedures considered essential for an excellent orthodontic finalization. The objective is, therefore, to present a list of items, in an appropriate hierarchical order, considered essential to achieve results with excellent oral health, facial and smile harmony, harmony of the dental relationship and/or ideal intercuspation, harmonious functional occlusion and, mainly, long term stability.

By the end of this conference, the audience will be able to:
– Define a logical sequence of steps to get an excellent finish.
– Recognize the problems that interfere with an excellent finish.
– Perform clinical procedures to improve orthodontic finishing.
